Have you ever asked yourself why should I bother helping others when I am buried in my own problems? Why should I take time for others if at the end people are not grateful for what you do for them?
These and many other questions are what create a sense of selfishness and apathy in us. Selfishness is based on fear; fear to be disappointed, fear to stay behind when helping someone, fear of not being rewarded. If we give others based on what we’re going to get back, we’ll loose a great opportunity to know and meet someone’s need. Helping this way is frustrating and exhausting.
When we help others or when we give a hand to the needy based on a genuine desire of serving, we will see our actions as a process of blessing lives and positively transform the history of a person. At that moment, we get our reward, and we’ll never be disappointed because we are not serving for what we can receive, but for becoming better leaders and agents of change. Also, a sense of humility is developed within us, and it will create satisfaction in everything we do.
A life not lived for others is not a life. –Mother Theresa
